Skin for All Seasons

Skin for All Seasons

Autumn is now upon us. The time to put swimsuits away and to embrace fluffy sweaters and silk pyjamas has come, a cup of hot tea in hand and our favourite adaptation of Pride and Prejudice on screen.

It is not, however, the time to abandon your skincare regimen. Well, at least for me. Whether waxing, shaving, or enjoying a No Shave November, I believe that it’s still important to keep skin hydrated and nourished. After all, our skin is our largest organ (I think! That’s what they taught me in school…)!

It honestly took me a while to understand the importance of this. Sometimes, I still slack a bit – we all have those moments, right?

In any case, I refuse to go back to my teenage years, when I would get out of the shower and get dressed without a single thought for the desert on my legs.

Therefore, without further ado, let me present you with the products I use, all very practical and fuss-free!

Let’s begin with bath/shower care. I love Lush – there’s nothing better than a nice, sparkly bath at the end of a tiring day. A bath can be the perfect occasion to start, actually. I often use Lush Ceridwen’s Cauldron, a bath melt that feels milky and has an incredibly relaxing fragrance.

Once a week, I go in with a scrub (I really should do it twice a week, but I can be really lazy…). Lush Rub Rub Rub is my new favourite one, and I really can’t see myself using anything else now. I find it very practical because it comes in a bar and you simply rub it against your body – so much better than battling with loose salt or sugar, and much more effective than the gel-like ones with spheres so small they wouldn’t even scrub Barbie.

My go-to hydration cream for the entire body is Lierac’s Body Hydra, Lait Hydra-Repulplant. It truly is an amazing product, and you can immediately feel the skin soften, and the two hyaluronic acids rehydrate and make the skin feel plumper.

For patches of particularly stubborn dry skin – like elbows, knees, heels, and, personally, for some reason, the outer side of my calves (????). For those zones, I use Avène Cicalfate, Crème Réparatrice. It is a very buttery cream with spring water, which makes it ideal for sensitive or irritated skin. I also find is useful when I am struggling with little scars or where there are ingrown hair (those jerks).

Epilation-wise, I either wax or am now starting to use an epilator (specifically Philips Satinelle). After the ‘deforestation’ (I am an Italian woman with very white skin but very dark hair, unfortunately, so I feel it is an apt metaphor), I feel the need to apply something that soothes the skin. I have been using an organic oil from L’Amande, specifically the Huile d’Amandes Douces with Vitamin E (with Sweet Almonds). It takes a bit longer to dry, but it does its job and it’s very delicate, so it truly is ideal for post-epilation.

This is it from me! Let us know your skincare routine in the comment section below!

Rossano Ferretti Hairspa, Verona: A Royal Treat

If you google Rossano Ferretti, you stumble upon two things: a list of celebrities with flawless hair, like Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge; and, of course, information on the man himself, the creator of the Method for cutting hair in a more natural way.

Enter the players. There were seven of us then, seven bright young things with wide precious futures ahead of us. Until that year, we saw no further than the books in front of our faces. We, here at The Attic on Eighth, love a good […]

Jane

Jane

Emma Knightley, handsome, clever, and rich, with a disposition almost always happy – an exception being when her little William, her sweet son, would start screeching because of some offense received, either real or imaginary – united some the best blessings in existence even if, having now lived for seven-and-twenty years and having been a wife and mother for almost five, she had found a little more to distress or vex her.

A Guide to Priming: Rory’s Favourites

To be completely honest, when I first started learning about makeup, I could not see what the point of primers – or rather, of prepping your skin since twelve years ago the primer-craze was a thing of the future. I remember rarely even putting hydrating […]

“There is no World Without Verona Walls”

“There is no World Without Verona Walls”

They say Paris is the city of love, yet I feel confident saying few places can stand the romantic allure of Verona.

In the latest adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, Belle (played by Emma Watson) says she’d been travelling to ‘Fair Verona’, while reading Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Now, leaving aside the controversial aspects of this film, it is certainly true that there is a certain magic in literary Verona as brought to life by William Shakespeare. I was recently there and I can tell you that the real deal does not disappoint either.
