Three Looks for NYE 2018

NYE 2018 is here and I for one am grateful. This year has had its ups and down. I moved and started a PhD, which meant a lot of happiness and eagerness to start something I’ve been wanting for a long time, but it also meant goodbyes to people and places. Coming back to my family over the holidays has helped me greatly in recharging and looking back with gratitude.

The holidays are also a moment to take care of myself a bit more than I do on a daily basis and, why not, even have some fun. Today, I’m sharing three looks with you that are inspired by the biggest 2018 trends for all kind of parties awaiting you tonight.

Winter Wonderland - This is a look I have been looking forward to trying for quite some time. This Christmas has not been white at all, so a sparkling white eye is the key to this look. I have used the shade ‘Heaven’ from Too Faced’s Natural Eyes palette as a base, topped with ‘Fire Crystal’ from Fenty Beauty’s Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo. The eyeliner gives definition to the eye, and Clinique’s Pretty Easy liquid eye lining pen is rendered even sharper by the application of some more white shadow underneath its wings. I have used Sisley’s Phyto Kohl Perfect in Snow on my waterline to make the eyes look brighter. I skipped any fake lashes, but you can always apply them if you want. Here, I used Benefit’s ‘Bad Gal Bang!’, whose dramatic name does keep its promise and delivers some pretty dramatic lashes. To finish this festive look, I applied Rouge Coco Gloss in 812, which is a nice shiny and glossy red.

Bye Bye, Drama - Honestly, I feel like the only dramatic things I need right now concern style and beauty. This is the perfect look for saying goodbye to the year’s drama and only leaving it on your face. Here, I’ve created a fairly straightforward smoky eye in brown and warm tones. From the same Too Faced palette as my previous look, I used the shade ‘Cashmere Bunny’ on the eyelid, then ‘Sexpresso’ on the crease; ‘Erotica’, which is much warmer, I used closer to lash line and on the bottom. Then I used a black kohl instead of an eyeliner since I didn’t want anything too sharp – mine is Clinique’s Cream Eye Shaper for eyes in ‘101 black diamond’ (it’s a bit glittery which is actually quite lovely for this look. Then I finished with the same Benefit mascara and a completely differently lipstick - here, I am wearing Victoria Beckham x Estée Lauder matte lipstick in the shade ‘01 Victoria’.

Sugar Plum Fairy - Have you ever wondered what happens when you listen to Hozier at Christmas? Well, in my experience, this happened! A look inspired by the Nutcracker’s character but with a bit of grunge. I used only one shade for my lids, blended throughout, and that is ‘Lady Killer’ (what a name, what a mood!) from my NARS x Man Ray palette (sold out limited edition, similar palette here). Then, I used the same Clinique kohl pencil and Benefit Mascara as before. The lipstick is the new Metallic Lipstick by Huda Beauty in the shade ‘NYE’, fittingly enough, topped with a coat of Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb in 'Fenty Glow’.
