Our Morning Rituals, Vol. 3
I hate mornings. I am a walking cliche, I know, but it’s 100% true. I hate morning and waking up sucks. Thankfully, creating a routine helps. I am the kind of person who struggles with getting up, and getting up can put me into a bad mood pretty easily.
So the first thing I do, right after I wake up, is to sit up and meditate. Having a clear head is really important for me, especially right now, as I'm swamped with deadlines and anxiety. After I have meditated (and maybe fallen asleep a couple more times), I get up, put the kettle on, and get the yoghurt out of the fridge. At that point, I can sit down and eat my improvised breakfast –– honestly, I think people who can make an actual meal for themselves in the mornings are heroes and I am scared of them, I think they are not to be messed up with.
While I sip my tea, I watch funny videos on Youtube. Then, it’s time to wash and get ready. I usually shower or have a relaxing bath in the evening so that I can wash up really quickly in the morning. I have fallen asleep in a bathtub before, you guys, and that’s not a risk I am willing to take when I have class or work in the morning.
However, I do have a fairly strict skincare routine in the mornings. I have a playlist called "90s and 00s" that makes me want to dance every damn time. So while the Backstreet Boys sing ‘I Want It That Way’, I wash my face with Biotherm’s Biosource Total Renew Oil, and then Caudalie’s Moisturizing Tonic. My favourite product of all time is Guerlain’s Abbeille Royale - Youth Watery Oil, which I apply with the massage extension from my Philips’s VisaPure Advanced 3-in-1 facial cleansing brush - adding this really changed my skin. After that, it’s time to moisturize –– I am faithful to my Dr Jart’s Water Drop Hydrating Cream.
At this point, the Spice Girls are singing ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, I am probably going to be late, and I need to do my makeup really quickly. Except that I am never as quick as I should be. Now, the look might change but there are some staples I really cannot do without: Nars’s Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Concealer (resepctively in the colours ‘Mont Blanc’ and Chantilly’), Guerlain’s Les Voilettes Mattifying Transluscent Loose Powder in ‘Clair’, Sisley’s So Intense Mascara in Black, and Nars’ duo of blush and bronzer in the colours ‘Laguna’ and ‘Orgasm’.
Finally, getting dressed is a race against time. It’s usually jeans, a black t-shirt, moccasins, an old leather bag, and big sunglasses. I am ready to go!
